Steady-state Investigation of Adsorption Cooling System using Water as Refrigerant

The present study presents the water adsorption equilibrium uptake on silica-gel based granular type hydrophilic adsorbent for adsorption cooling system. Water vapor adsorption isotherms are determined experimentally for the studied material. Experimental data is fitted with Guggenheim, Anderson, and De-Boer (GAB) model for the temperature range of the experiments. Fundamentals of adsorption cooling system are explained. Ideal cycle analysis of the assorted pair is executed for the regeneration, adsorption and evaporator temperatures of 100, 30 and 10°C, respectively. The system gives the maximum COP of 0.56 at the regeneration temperature of 70°C.
