This paper introduces an inner loop current control methodology for a controlled voltage source converter model that has been previously proposed for use in large scale positive sequence time domain simulations. The architecture of the control loop is similar to and derived from the control architecture used in a point on wave simulation. As proof of concept, the behavior of the control methodology in a three-machine nine-bus test system and the 2012 WECC system, has been examined. Additionally, the necessity and effect of enforcing a near instantaneous current limit through network iterations will be discussed using the three-machine nine-bus test system and the IEEE 118 bus test system.
