A high level noise source was needed for a project at the Space Science Center. The method described allowed for the very quick, repeatable, reliable testing of 12 commercially made noise sources of unspecified ENR. The ENR's were measured and the highest value noise source was selected. Various other marked sources were tested and found to agree within .05 dFJ of the marked ENR. ENR dependence on bias voltage is easily obtained via this method, which does not use a noise figure meter. Admittedly, some items that the author has in his junkbox may not be in the reader pile YET, but so much stuff is "out there" and available at fleamarkets and on eBay or in a buddies junkbox, etc. that the parts for a system like this are not " un-obtanium".
