Operational energy management is a game-changing capability that provides insight into extending a ship's operational presence through improved energy management, maintenance planning, strategy, and mission execution. Current fleet energy performance measurements, complemented by energy efficient technologies, can be most effectively improved through efficient operations and applying best maintenance practices. Increased energy consumption at both the system and equipment levels are indications of material degradation. Early degradation detection can result in lower maintenance costs and improved equipment efficiency, leading to greater energy efficiency. Strategies of Navy future warship designs that incorporate increasingly power-hungry combat and C41 systems should continue to be refined by incorporating information provided by GENISYS regarding shipboard systems in both peacetime and wartime environments.
