1. A4F is an excellent technique for fractionating CNCD-1 and produces well-dispersed single CNC (Fl, ~ 92% single CNC) and doesn't aggregate for ~ 2-3 months (F1); 2. AFM and TEM give complementary size information about the individual CNC. 3. The width of individual CNC by TEM is double the height of individual CNC by AFM for Fl. It could be due to asymmetric cross-section of individual CNC or the lateral aggregation of individual CNC on the TEM grid and limited resolution of TEM (uranyl acetate staining) compared to AFM. 4. The mean shape parameter of 1.43 by A4F is consistent with needle-shaped CNCs.
