Smart Vehicles: The Data Privacy Smog

Modern vehicles are opening up, with connectivity and other features integrated to enable comfort and safety features. This unprecedented connectivity as well as increased storage capacity, along with the unique use cases of a vehicle increases the risk of privacy violation. In this paper, we present an evaluation of data privacy in vehicles of today. We do this by studying four real-world vehicles using exploratory methods. We find that none of the vehicles we studied are compliant with data protection laws and present some discussion and implications thereof. Finally we give potential future directions for this work-in-progress.
