Modelling of Channels for Intra-Corporal Ultrasound Communication

Ultrasound waves have been shown to have advantages over radio frequency waves for intra-corporal communication. However, the development of communication protocols is hampered by the lack of models for the communication channels. Therefore, a propagation model was introduced including effects of attenuation, diffraction, and multipath. By assuming rectangular enclosure media with point sources and receivers implanted, critical metrics were extracted from the simulated channel impulse response, and the results were verified by corresponding experimental measurements with good accuracy. This work laid foundations of a computer simulation model to predict channel behaviour for the purpose of intra-corporal ultrasonic communications.
