Wideband 39 GHz Vertically-Polarized Endfire Antenna-in-Package (AiP) Array featuring Near-Planar Profile

This paper describes an extremely thin antennain-package (AiP) with integrated 5G vertically-polarized endfire antenna array for millimeter-wave applications. The proposed AiP features a height profile <; 0.1 λ₀, is therefore compatible for integration within compact devices. To verify the proposed AiP, the optimized design was fabricated using multi-layer LTCC technology. The proposed antenna achieved the measured impedance bandwidth (2:1 VSWR) of approximately 4 GHz with a center frequency of 39 GHz. The measured radiation pattern confirmed array gain of 8.09 dBi and the difference between the co- and cross-polarized radiation intensity was > 20 dB in all directions of interest.
