This paper summarizes some recent progresses of Luneburg lens type antennas for mobile communications at millimeter wave frequencies. Two-dimensional lens structures are examined. The development focuses on the miniaturization of antenna structures with proper multibeam overlapping and switching for dynamic beam-to-beam connection. Both numerical and experimental results are presented to validate the design.
