A novel hemi-ellipsoidal dielectric resonator (HEDR) element is proposed for designing a millimeter-wave circularly polarized (CP) reflectarray antenna. The reflection phase of the element is changed by varying the major axe of HEDR. By employing the proposed element, a circular polarized 11 × 11 full-fledged reflectarray with line polarized feeding is designed by HFSS-MATLAB-API scripts. Simulated results show that the proposed CP dielectric reflectarray antenna is able to achieve a high gain of 21.7 dBi and a 1-dB gain bandwidth of 11.2%. In addition, a 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of 6.7% and an aperture efficiency of 32.4% can be obtained.
