Aiming to explore the wire-type free conducting particles which can produce partial discharge (PD) in DC gas-insulated equipment, an experiments were conducted to determine the influence of three kinds of metal materials (aluminum, 304 stainless steel and copper) free conducting particles on the SF SF6 decomposition. The generation rules of SOF2, SO2F2 and SO2 and SO2 under different metallic particles was obtained. The research showed that the kinds of metal materials had a great influence on the formation of the three SF6 sulfur-containing characteristics decomposition components. The amount of the three decomposition components by aluminum particles were the most abundant, followed by 304 stainless steel and copper particles. Moreover, the amount and formation rates of SOF2 were the largest, followed by SO2F2 and SO2. All of these provided an experimental basis for the diagnosis of fault type in positive DC SF6 gas insulated equipment.
