State and Perspectives of Power and Industry Applications of Coal

摘要

Technological improvement of fossil fuel power plants is a most important issue of future development of thermal energy in the world. The main sources of primary energy for power plants are organic fuels, among which coal is the most widespread one. Stricter requirements for environmentally friendly manufacturing and the need for reducing capital expenditure and operating costs require development of power equipment and steam-generating units, in particular. Due to modern technologies - including ones that are produced in Russia - it is possible to increase energy efficiency and environmental performance by renovating, retrofitting and upgrading boilers and building new ones. It is important to acknowledge the significant amount of Russian coal reserves, reasonable price of coal mining, and scientific potential. The paper describes some promising coal technologies, their impact on environmental performance and efficiency of the electric and thermal power industry in Russian Federation.
