This paper presents a nine-degree-of-freedom (DOF) nonlinear model of flight dynamics of a hang glider and pilot's handling modeled by means of feedback control. The dynamic model is based on the two-body modeling, i.e., the motion of the hang glider and the motion of the pilot are modeled separately but under a kinematic constraint, and then they are integrated by eliminating an internal force. The resulting model is analytically obtained in the form of a nonlinear state equation. Stabilization of the pilot's attitude and control of the pilot's center-of-gravity location for lateral maneuver are embedded in the 9-DOF model. Numerical simulation results suggest the validity of the proposed model.
