1. In the highly regulated world around us, facilities must comply with a myriad of permits (air, waste, etc.) as part of their routine operations. Facility inspections by local, state, and Federal regulators are part of the process and something that strikes fear in many people. Whether these inspection are announced (scheduled in advance) or unannounced (surprise inspections with or without cause), there are steps facility environmental managers need to take be prepared for either type of inspection and, with a little advanced planning and preparation, they can certainly be prepared for a smooth agency inspection. 2. In this presentation, I will summarize some of the basic operating principles and guidelines that the facility manager can follow to prepare for an inspection. By understanding what is required to demonstrate compliance, the facility manager can develop and implement recordkeeping and reporting techniques to satisfy the underlying permit requirements and applicable regulations. We will go through examples of permit conditions and discuss how facilities can target their records to meet the permit requirements. 3. Attendees will leave with an awareness of what to look for to ensure their facility has all the information required to demonstrate compliance during an agency inspection and hopefully less fear when they have their next agency inspection.
