Seeing is Believing - Improving Spaceport Planning Public Outreach Through Visualization

The development of commercial launch sites and spaceports needs to satisfy a variety of technical and regulatory requirements. However, one of the more challenging elements in this arena is engaging with stakeholders and communities and conveying the value of proposed developments. Strategic visualization tools quickly get everyone on the same page by setting appropriate expectations and allowing everyone to participate in the planning process. Whether you're trying to convey the current reality of launching multitudes of CubeSats into orbit at one time, or envisioning a future of time-shares on Mars, getting the general public engaged is a challenge and, at times, may prevent critical developments from moving forward. Utilizing established visualization tools, along with new developments such as Small Unmanned Aerial System (sUAS) vehicles, allows us to expedite data collection for visual analysis, make informed decisions, reduce closures, and, ultimately, get to "yes" faster.
