The current practice of the produced shopdrawings for masonry walls from BIM projects are done by extraction of layout drawings then adding the assembly details as 2D geometric shapes, which ignores the functions of BIM. Modeling all the wall assemblies on the BIM project is a labor intensive process, time consuming and less rewarding for Contractors. Thus, this paper introduces newly developed parametric wall-assembly algorithms that can automatically generate full virtual wall mockups using BIM. A model was designed to include both query and build algorithms for each wall assembly component, programmed and tested in a BIM environment. The results highlight the significant productivity improvement that a Contractor could attain in producing shopdrawings compared to the traditional methods; moreover, the model could be used to detect non-modular designs for construction waste minimization and design optimization.
