The hybrid nickel-base alloy UNS N10362 offers superior corrosion performance to established Ni-Mo and Ni-Cr-Mo alloys in several specific severe corrosive environments. Explosion cladding of N10362 to a lower cost base metal provides significant cost reduction for pressure vessels and other process equipment requiring heavier thicknesses, typically 12 mm (0.5 in) and greater. Alloy N10362 explosion clad plate, with steel base metal, was extensively evaluated for compliance with clad metal specifications, corrosion resistance, thermal stability and ability to be formed, fabricated and heat treated as needed for manufacture of pressure vessels and similar process equipment. The corrosion resistance properties of the cladding layer were unchanged after the sequence of explosion cladding, head forming, and post weld heat treating. The bond uniformity, shear strength, and product ductility of the clad plate were compliant with the requirements of the applicable clad metal specifications. Ultrasonic inspection showed no recordable indications of the test plate which simulated production of plates up to 4800 mm x 6100 mm (189 in x 240 in).
