Comparison of different WLAN standard on propagation performance in V2V named data networking

Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANET) technology especially Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) enables vehicles to communicate each other directly. Each vehicle acts as a node and equipped with transceiver to send and receive data. V2V technology requires a reliable and faster communication since it is established in a short distance and time, where simulations often occurs in dynamic conditions. This situation make the use of IP-based protocol becomes less suitable to be implemented. The worked by Wang et.al showed that Named Data Networking can be implemented in the VANET Network and that NDN is the right approach for supporting vehicle communications. In this paper we investigate the performance of 802.11 WLAN standard including 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11p. We measure the speed of data propagation for each WLAN and the impact of car density to the propagation performatnce. Our simulation results using ndnSIM shows that WLAN 802.11g standard have a better propagation performance compare with other WLAN standards.
