Challenges Faced by ZAMREN’s Affiliates in the Provision of E-Learning: A Cross-Country Analysis

Zambia Research Education Networks (ZAMREN) is a National research and education network (NREN) found in Zambia, registered as a non-profit entity. It currently has 56 affiliates (members) in total. Its network lies along the line of rail, essentially, connecting towns between Livingstone and Chililabombwe town. This research was an analysis of the challenges that are faced by the affiliates of ZAMREN. Questionnaires, SSPS and Microsoft excel 2010 were the instruments used for analysis in this study. Overall the results were such that 15% of affiliates described the network performance as 'Poor', 45% described it as 'fairly Well', 30% described it as 'Good” and only 10% described it as 'Very Good'. Also the results revealed that 85% of the affiliates expect ZAMREN to provide technical training and support, 70% improved quality of service, 60% reduce internet tariffs, and 40% of other affiliates require improvements in bureaucracy and financial support. Other findings highlighted that obstructions or impediments to the adoption and use of ICTs in education was largely caused by external factors at 59% whereas internal factors were at 41%.
