This paper presents a waveform design method using Multi-Tone Sinusoidal Frequency Modulation (MTSFM). The MTSFM waveform's modulation function is represented using a Fourier series expansion. The Fourier coefficients are generated using independent identically distributed (i.i.d) Gaussian random variables which generate a family of constant amplitude FM waveforms possessing continuous pseudo-random modulation functions. The MTSFM waveforms possess a thumbtack-like Ambiguity Function (AF) and low cross-correlation properties with one another while occupying the same band of frequencies. The MTSFM waveforms additionally possesses a lower Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) and better Spectral Containment (SC) than other known thumbtack-like waveforms making them well-suited for transmission on radar transmitters which utilize high power amplifiers.
