Due to the uncontrollable permanent magnet flux and the inherent defects of the permanent magnet, the traditional family of Permanent magnet motor suffers the limitation of its application in many high-tech fields. To consider the interruption performance limitations of conventional operating mechanism for high-voltage circuit breaker and the future needs, the paper proposes novel SRM motor operating mechanism with two dependent magnetically sets, which has the assisted field coil be placed between the two-stator sets, and studies the new method for reconstruction of the SRM structure. Higher output torque characteristic of the new structure SRM can be achieved by improving the air-gap flux and the armature winding current. The motor is numerically computed by 3-D FEM, the accuracy and effectiveness of 3-D FE analysis is verified. The performance simulation analysis of 40.5 kV circuit breaker opening and closing has been done, the new structure SRM experimental platform of control system has also been built. No-load test has been completed. The results show that novel SRM motor operating mechanism satisfies the interrupting operation requirements, satisfies higher torque output, and lower torque ripple. It can improve the operational reliability of the high voltage (HV) circuit breaker.
