Most shipyards in China do not have piers of sufficient conditions for the foundation template installation, so the tendon system of Tension Leg Platform (TLP) cannot be used for mooring at the pier, and temporary mooring lines are necessary during the term of outfitting. Because TLP’s tall column and unconventional mooring lines arrangement, the study of motion responses and mooring line forces is of great significance. In this paper, a model for TLP mooring at the pier is built, the motion behavior and mooring line forces are calculated in irregular waves, and the variable regulation for them at condition of transverse and longitudinal load are analyzed. This study supplies useful reference to TLP’s safe mooring design, and provides important technical guidance for TLP’s building and outfitting at piers in China.
