In this paper, the hydrodynamic calculation methods based on radiation/diffraction theory and slender body theory were modified respectively. For the former, the potential flow loadings which involved the radiation force of CALM buoy, the first-order and second-order wave force, the hydrostatic restoring force were calculated based on radiation/diffraction theory. Meanwhile, a kind of calculating model which combined Morison element with disc element was proposed to analyse the viscous loads of CALM buoy. For the latter, the non-viscous hydrodynamic calculation model of CALM buoy was developed based on slender body equations. The viscous loads were also obtained based on Morison and disc elements. Then, the model test for CALM buoy was conducted to verify and contrast the results of the two calculation methods. After comparison, it is found that the calculated results of the two methods are basically consistent with those of model test in motion amplitude and overall trend. The the hydrodynamic calculation models of CALM buoy proposed in this paper are proved to be correct and the accuracy of the former method is higher than the later method.
