Challenges in Offshore Pipeline Decommissioning and What can we learn from Integrity Management Practices

This paper gives a brief overview of the offshore pipeline decommissioning market today. It presents the technical challenges of offshore pipeline decommissioning, especially when the offshore pipeline has been operated at high pressure and high temperature (HPHT) conditions in deepwater. A risk based approach rooted in modern pipeline integrity management principals is proposed. This will be an effective way to meet the technical challenges that will become apparent, and ensure costly decommissioning projects can be carried out efficiently.
