The Talbot effect is considered for generating structured illumination of a metallic hollow waveguide array. The dimensions of the array are at the sub-wavelength scale, hence the design is made for the non-paraxial case. Based on numerical simulations, we show that in comparison to a uniform illumination, structured illumination improves the transmission of the waveguide array by up to 50%.
