High data rates and low distortion are prime requirements for a successful wireless communication system. Due to multipath fading, strength of the signal at the receiver becomes very weak. This increases the bit error rate (BER) and hence reduces the efficiency of the whole system. The reduced signal strength can be compensated by employing equalization techniques at the receiver. MIMO refers to a wireless technique for transmitting and receiving more than one signal over the same channel by using multipath propagation. In this paper, the performance of the MIMO system is evaluated under various fading channels (Rayleigh and Rician). The detection techniques used at the receiver are ZF and MRC and the modulation technique is BPSK.
