With the increasing number of population as well as cars on the road, vehicle tracking and traffic monitoring have become significant tools for commuters to avoid traffic problems. The object of this paper is to depict a way to count vehicle number in a low-cost manner. Here, the camera module of Raspberry Pi assisted to monitor traffic irrespective of their color, size and angle. The algorithm included a coding system which nearly identified vehicles of same size, color or understood the difference between large and small vehicle (e.g. bus and car). Later the calculation involved different lighting conditions to check the uniformity of the experiment. The counting system also shows traffic signal depending on the number of cars.
