Rapid Prototyping IoT End Applications Using Software Development Kits and Add on Plugins

In any Internet of Things (IoT) related end equipment the most commonly used components are Sensors, Actuators. On the connectivity side technologies like Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Wi-Fi, Zigbee etc. are also used. Most common problems faced by developers while developing end applications is interfacing the sensors and actuators, working with IoT Software Development Kits (SDK) like Azure IoT SDK, Amazon AWS SDK and connectivity stacks. Many sensor vendors do provide sensor drivers, but user has to research and access multiple sources to get the necessary information and source code. Developer has to spend efforts in porting or interfacing the driver to his Micro Controller (MCU) platform. Portability also becomes important to protect software investments for future. This paper discusses about SDK for MCUs, Plugins for MCU SDKs, and provides details on how they simplify efforts for the developers in rapidly prototyping IoT end applications.
