The energy efficient channel access protocols that supports a large number of heterogeneous devices plays an emerging role in guarantee of QoS in sensor network for various IoT based services. By exploiting the frequency bands the MAC protocols have recently obtained considerable attention in wireless networking research community. Although various research has been carried out in this context, this paper mainly focuses on the improvement in energy factor for medium access protocol using mobile sensors. Again since energy distribution among the nodes is not uniform in heterogeneous network the use of a proper channel access scheme can help in improving QoS and increase the lifetime of the network. In this paper, a comparative study of sensor network based MAC protocols is carried out in heterogeneous and homogeneous sensor network under both static and dynamic condition. Considering Directed Diffusion routing protocol, we have analyzed various metrics like energy consumption, delay, throughput and packet delivery ratio in both the approaches of sensor network with stationary and mobile sensor nodes.
