Modelling and simulation of improved operation of D-STATCOM in distribution system for power quality improvement using MATLAB Simulink tool

DSTATCOM is custom power device used in distribution system for mitigation of power quality issues. This paper present flexible operation of Distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM), modeled in MATLAB Simulink toolbox for mitigation of power quality issues in distribution system. Here, flexible operation of DSTATCOM is described, where DSTATCOM changes its mode of operation, from current control mode (CCM) to voltage control mode (VCM) and vice a versa. Due to this flexible DSTATCOM operation, it mitigate the voltage and current harmonics, to balance the source current, to improve the power factor, to compensate for voltage disturbances such as sag and swell, to reduce the losses and rating of inverter. The change in operational mode of DSTATCOM is based on source voltage. Model is developed and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink.
