Operational cost reduction based on distributed adaptive droop control technique in DC microgrids

A novel distributed adaptive droop coordination control system has been proposed in this paper to solve the economical dispatch problem (EDP) in DC microgrids. It comprises of tertiary and secondary controllers for scheduling the dispatchable distributed generation (DGs) output powers to ensure optimal load sharing between them and restore microgrid's average voltage as well. The controller of each DG process its local information and the information of its neighbors through a sparse communication network to update its primary voltage set point. By virtue of dynamic consensus algorithm, tertiary controller equalizes DGs incremental costs to adjust the output power of each DG at the optimal point while satisfying the in-equality constraints, while secondary controller regulates the average voltage across the microgrid to maintain the equality constraint. Through several experimental studies, the feasibility of the proposed controller in case of load variations, plug and play capability, and communication failures are verified.
