Future will be a smarter, greener, better and ubiquitous connected world due to proliferation of smartphone and deployment of emerging applications like IoT, autonomous vehicle, drone, VR and Robots. Sensing, Safety/Security, Power Consumption/Management, and Data Processing/Transmitting/Receiving functions are getting more important. Function integration with powerful performance and form factor requirement will still drive logic migration by Moore's law, while the analog intensive diversified needs for applications like sensing, power, MCU will prompt for faster transition of these “legacy” technologies. With this market transition, we have observed large volume product companies competing to follow Moore's law, while IDM companies, which are strong at analog intensive applications, to migrate their products from 8″ to 12″ and legacy to advanced technologies. Under the backdrop of this new market dynamics, foundry technology and service will also need to evolve to better serve both stable large volume and growing fragmented markets. We believe future winning DNAs for foundry service will be Variety, comprehensive technology solutions with customization capability, Verticality, collaboration for vertical market specific solution, and Velocity, right infrastructure and culture for in time service.
