Due to lack of any design methodology, on-chip wireless power transmission (WPT) systems often fall short to its off-chip counterpart in terms of power efficiency. In this paper, a design methodology was established by explaining the fundamental trade-offs between geometric and electrical parameters of WPT systems. The transmitter and receiver dimensions, available source power, and the operating frequency were considered as the major design constraints. Behavioral trends due to these constraints were rigorously investigated utilizing a scalable WPT model along with the experimental results. Eventually, a strategy was provided to achieve the most efficient power transmission operating within the constraints.
