This paper provides a summary of a comparative study of three differentbacking materials that can be used for ballistic testing of body armour. Thestudy used standardised test packs, shot patterns, velocities and test rounds tobuild a data set. The aim being to understand how these mediums work andtheir use in the assessment of behind armour blunt trauma. In addition, the dataset enables the variance of the different mediums to be greater understood. Thisis an extended abstract paper and associated poster summarising initial resultsof work conducted as part of my PhD at Cranfield University. The full paper isplanned to be published in early 2018.
