Maine’s coast provides dramatic and beautiful settings to live in, and totals approximately 3,500 miles. Sweeping views of the ocean considerably increases property values, making properties much sought after. The rugged beauty and challenge of its climate and landscape have given Maine people a character that’s importance is beyond economic or political power.The Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Wells Water District (KKWWD) located in Kennebunk, Maine was established in 1921 and provides water to over 13,500 connections. The system has the longest service area of any Water District in Maine, stretching 25 miles along the southern Maine coast and serving the Towns of Ogunquit, Wells, Kennebunkport, and Kennebunk, Maine. KKWWD provides quality water service to a population that varies seasonally from about 28,000 year round residents to over 75,000 summer customers. More than 50% of their water mains are over 50 years old. The KKW staff has historically been pro-active in evaluating and assessing the distribution system needs for rehabilitation or replacement. A particular water main on Mile Stretch Road serves the older seaside Fletchers Neck Area along a very narrow right-of-way with high seasonal traffic volumes.
