The use of building information modeling (BIM) is continuously growing over time in the Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry worldwide. Also, many governments have established BIM as a requirement for public construction projects. As a result, a demand for professionals with BIM education and competency is increasing. In order to satisfy current and future BIM professional demand, universities must integrate BIM into their undergraduate programs. The aim of this study is to determine the need and the best approach to incorporate BIM into the Civil Engineering undergraduate program at University of Puerto Rico, Mayagueez Campus (UPRM). Through an extensive literature review, several approaches to incorporate BIM into the curriculum were evaluated and industry requirements for BIM education were identified. A framework to incorporate BIM across the curriculum in existing UPRM courses was developed, taking into consideration what skills industries expect new professionals to have and the cognitive domain of Bloom's Taxonomy learning objectives. The framework and recommendations intend to provide the Civil Engineering Department faculty members' a guide to develop a BIM curriculum and satisfy the actual and future industry demand for new professionals with BIM skills.
