The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), under the purview of established program on modelling and simulation in the different reactor technologies, assists its member states in education & training, and maintains a suite of basic principle simulators for nuclear power plants. These are freely distributed to the member states upon request and are used on personal computers without the need of any other expensive hardware support. In regards to simulators, the IAEA also supports distribution of educational material and sponsors various training courses and workshops. Owing to the continued efforts and growth in the development of fast reactors, the IAEA has decided to add to its suite a PC-based simulator describing the basic operations of a generic innovative Sodium-cooled Fast Reactors (SFR). The purpose of this type of simulator is to provide a basic understanding of the technology, demonstrate and display fundamental physical plant parameters, understand general plant operating modes and procedures, and understand the basic safety systems. With a set of predefined malfunctions and initial conditions, a user can also understand the overall behavior of the various postulated transients. Although the responses marked by the simulator under accident scenario cannot be used for safety analysis purposes as there are necessary simplifications and assumptions made in the models, the transient responses should be realistic enough for educational purposes. The paper aims to provide an overview of the simulator's functional and design requirements along with the status of its development.
