Deploying an IoT (Internet of Things) system over the next-generation mobile telecommunication could lead to an issue of “Low Spectrum Utilization”. To cope with this challenge caused by employing applications of “Environmental Monitoring” using a NB (Narrow Band) radio spectrum. This paper proposes a B4G (Beyond 4G) automatic TBS (Transport Block Size) index selection scheme to optimize the spectrum utilization for video-stream transmissions between IoT devices. Potential performance advantages in terms of coding scheme selection and radio spectrum utilization were evaluated. Moreover, variations of available bandwidth caused by noise upsets during packet transmissions were analyzed to validate the practice of our proposed TBS index selection scheme.
