The harmonic issue of generator-rectifier system is discussed in this paper. A general method for determining the theoretical harmonic components of the regular sampled symmetrical SVPWM is presented. The analytical expression for SVPWM was validated by comparing the analytical calculated results with experimental measurements. The relationships among Total Harmonic Distortion, modulation index, Carrier/fundamental frequency ratios are demonstrated and compared in the three phase two-level voltage source bridge rectifier using regular SVPWM strategy. One of the contribution of this paper is that it provides a convenience reference point for the choice to be made between the SVPWM strategies versus others' more complex modulation strategy in particular applications. The conclusions can be applied to other converter systems.
