Predictive set point modulation to mitigate transients in power systems with a multiple-input-multiple-output control system

In recent years, due to high demand for electrical energy both in commercial and residential sectors, power systems often operate close to their operational limits. However, transients caused by load variation, faults and large set point changes can cause an apparatus violates its operational limits and different subsequent attentional problems such as instability and tripping of protective devices. Several strategies are proposed to control an apparatus under different operating conditions. Set point automatic adjustment with correction-enabled (SPAACE) [1], is one of the proposed algorithm to improve the set point tracking of a controllable power system and mitigate transients within the system. SPAACE uses a feedback signal from the output of an apparatus and monitors the trend of the signal and based on that temporarily changes its reference set point. In this paper, a comprehensive study of this algorithm is performed then the performance of SPAACE with a new prediction method and for the multiple-input-multiple-output systems is evaluated.
