Current global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs) are based on signals lying within the L-band of the radio navigation satellite service spectrum. The European Space Agency is currently investigating the possibility to use the C-band for future navigation application and services. In this context, criteria to perform optimal signal design are to be developed, that take into consideration new requirements coming form the use of the new band. This paper addresses the analysis of band-limited and time-limited signal design criteria for the C-band portion. In particular, two classes of signals are proposed and analyzed, and the effects of non-linearities introduced by the on-board amplifier are evaluated with respect to a few performance metrics, such as tracking performance, multipath robustness and out of band emissions.
