Field corrosion test in high H2S containing production flow by using a new testing apparatus

A new specially designed corrosion test apparatus was manufactured in order to perform a long-term field corrosion test in FQ oil field, Iraq. The field corrosion test apparatus installation method and the testing procedures were presented in this paper. Several kinds of OCGT materials were fixed inside the test section, such as carbon steel L80 and P110S, and stainless steel 13Cr. The test duration was 98 days; it is longer than the standard recommendation time of three month. The general corrosion rate and pitting attack were evaluated. It was found that pitting attack happened on carbon steel, no pit was observed in 13Cr steel. Long term field corrosion test results have more reliability than short term of laboratory tests.
