This paper proposes a novel beam control method and configuration for a phased array antenna system (PAS) for ultra-broadband transmission. The PAS adjusts the phase difference of local signals (RF carriers) to control a beam. The main idea behind the proposed system is to utilize two local signals in order to employ non-variable phase shifters for beam steering. A two-branch PAS transmitter with phase-adjusted RF carriers configures and tests to confirm the feasibility of the proposed beam control method and configuration. Measurement results confirm that the proposed configuration can be used to control the directivity.
