In this paper, the procedure for evaluating sandy gravels' liquefaction potential was studied by laboratory tests with Seed's simplified procedure for evaluating soil liquefaction potential. The results show that Seed's simplified procedure for evaluating soil liquefaction potential can not be used directly in the evaluating of sandy gravels' as which should be modified by taking the difference between sand and sandy gravel into account. In this paper, based on Seed's simplified procedure for evaluating soil liquefaction potential, a procedure for evaluating sandy gravel's liquefaction potential by modifying Cr was proposed which can comprehensively consider the effects of relative density, gravel content, maximum particle size and gradation characteristics on earthquake liquefaction. Compared with the simplified procedure, the results of the latter method are much more practical for the project.
