Aphasia usually needs more than 9 hours per week of speech practice, but clinically it is not feasible. A smart phone based system for aphasia therapy in naming was firstly developed[4]. Smartphone based self-learning can increase practice number and time, but lack of evidence of its effectiveness. The difference of learning effectiveness between traditional speech therapy and self-learning is not well investigated. The purpose of this study is to compare and discuss the outcomes and physiological changes between smartphone based self-learning and traditional speech therapy. From the experimental results, a new measure combining the naming accuracy and response time reveals that the effectiveness of the smartphone based speech therapy is much the same as the traditional therapy.
