Control system for DTMB modulator over MicroBlaze technologies

Worldwide, telecommunication systems are deployed mainly over digital technologies. One of the most important elements in these structures are digital modulators and demodulators. The main hardware components of these devices are complex and have several configurations. Therefore, a robust control system is essential to guarantee their functional performance. The aim of this paper is the design of a Control System for a DTMB Modulator with 6 MHz channel bandwidth. The design is implemented via an embedded system with Xilinx Spartan 3E technologies and MicroBlaze processor. The control system runs over a FreeRTOS Operating System port for MicroBlaze processors. The controlled modules are Base Band 6 MHz DTMB Modulator, digital Up-Converter, Reference Clock Generator, Pre-corrector, Variable Gain Amplifier and User Interface. To interface main controller with peripherals are used I2C and SPI serial buses. The proposed design is a flexible platform, easily adaptable to other applications.
