One of the most promising and interesting concepts for the energy and power system evolution is smart microgrids. The potential of microgrids is their capability to integrate renewable energy sources and distributed generation into the power delivery system providing electricity, heating and cooling under the control of the so called energy management system. This paper provides the experimental validation of photovoltaic system modeling, accounting for the impact of all the approximations needed to actually implement and use the model into a real microgrid energy management system. The impact of photovoltaic forecasting uncertainties is evaluated in relation to the output of the energy management system. Experimental validation was performed thanks to the historical database of the Smart Polygeneration Microgrid of Savona Campus at Genoa University.
