In this paper, new formulas for the axial cross-section of a perfectly conducting strongly elongated spheroid truncated by a plane perpendicular to its axis, are derived. The method is based on a new solution for the asymptotic field in the boundary layer, expressed in terms of Whittaker functions and on a spectral decomposition of this field in a spectrum of inhomogeneous local plane waves. The backscattered field in the axial direction is calculated by using a caustic correction based on the equivalent line current technique.
