The Application of Value Engineering Techniques to Strategic Planning Processes

Strategic planning is a critical activity for all organizations. If properly executed, a strategic plan can be an effective vehicle for helping any organization realize its vision. This paper explores how Value Engineering (VE) principles and techniques can be applied to improve the strategic planning process. Specifically, the application of function analysis is explored and its unique capacity to help people think broadly, ly, and laterally, about their organizations. This paper assumes that the reader is fluent with basic VE techniques and focuses more on how they can be integrated into any strategic planning process.
