Penicillium Chrysogenum Influenced Corrosion

摘要

The presence of fungi in the oil sector (in the refinery and production sites) can cause severe problems at the installations, tanks, filters, etc. The fungi can attack the above entire system and in most of the cases it can cause environmental damage by oil leakage from oil installations leading to a very costly replacement and clean up. This paper describes the effect of fungi Penicillium chrysogenum (Pc) which is locally isolated from Al-Ahmadi site in south of Kuwait city on the steel coupon with respect to the occurrence of pitting corrosion. The occurrence of pitting corrosion is interpreted in terms of acid produced by the fungal metabolic activity.
